Eventually, Mr. Horak moved to Hawaii where he worked in geological reconnaissance on all the major islands. Working in remote locations in close proximity to the local population gave him the opportunity to explore the physical and cultural aspects of the Hawaiian Islands-both modern and ancient.
After returning to the mainland Mr. Horak combined his love of Hawaii, maritime exploration and historical maps into his own unique art. His art is an attempt to portray a romantic view of that transitional period of the first European voyagers and the early impact on traditional culture post-contact.
